WACO, Texas- The Iowa State soccer team fell short against Baylor Friday night in Waco, Texas. The Cyclones fought hard but were unable to come from behind, falling to the Bears, 3-0. Baylor goals were scored by Lauren Weathers, Pat Roscovius, and Missy McConnell.
With the loss, Iowa State falls to 5-7-0 overall, and 1-1-0 in the Big 12. Baylor captured its first conference win, improving to 4-6-1 overall, and 1-2-0 in the Big 12.
Jumping to an early 2-0 lead in the first half, the Bears capitalized, while the Cyclones missed several scoring opportunities. Junior co-captain Brittanie Waddell had two shots on goal for the Cyclones. Freshmen Elise Reid and Amanda Nimtz and junior co-captain Stephanie Kaphingst, added two shots apiece to the team's 12 shots in the match. Overall, ISU was outshot by the Bears 18-12.
Iowa State goalkeeper Ann Gleason had seven saves on the night, bringing her season total to 64. Gleason leads the Big 12 Conference in saves.
The final Baylor goal was scored in the 85th-minute off a loose ball in front of the net, taking away all hopes of a Cyclone comeback. Baylor's Weathers and Roscovius scored their first career goals in the win.
The Cyclones return home to the ISU Soccer Complex Sunday against Texas Tech. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
