Soccer Suffers First Big 12 Loss At Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. ? Colorado's Nikki Marshall scored in the 20^th minute and the marker held up as the Buffaloes defeated Iowa State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. Ann Gleason made three saves as the Cyclones (6-2-3, 2-1-1 Big 12) suffered their first defeat in the last six matches.

Marshall scored the lone goal of the match unassisted, taking the ball down the left sideline before beating Gleason. With the win, Colorado improved to 6-3-3 (2-1-0 Big 12).

“Overall, we just didn't come out very quickly and played a little bit sluggish,” said ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “(Colorado) is a very good team. We have to be prepared to come out hard for every game. They capitalized on their chance. It was not a very offense-oriented game for both teams as far as generating a lot of shots, but they put the one away that counted. We just didn't play to the ability that I think we're capable of. We need to step it up in practice this week to come out, ready to go for Texas Tech.”

Kirstin Radlinski (3-3-3) made one save to earn the shutout for Colorado. The Buffaloes' defense was stingy all day, allowing just three Cyclone shots. Colorado took 12 shots. The Buffaloes also held a 2-0 advantage on corner kicks. Brittanie Waddell took two of the Cyclones' three shots.

The Cyclones continue Big 12 play on the road Friday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
