“It was a very tough match and both teams had some great opportunities,” said ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “Overall, it was an extremely solid defensive effort. I think Ann Gleason came up big. Our back line was strong throughout the game to preserve the shutout. UNLV is a tremendous team and I think our team played very well today. It would've been great to get the win, but I'm proud of our team's effort and battling for 110 minutes.”
Gleason (4-1-2) made four stops in the first half and three more in the second against a UNLV team that on Friday defeated Washington State, previously undefeated and ranked as highly as No. 11 in the nation. A field player was also credited with a save for the Cyclones. UNLV's Alicia Lugo (
ISU's Erin Witte had a shot with six seconds remaining in regulation, but it went wide to send the match to overtime. The Cyclones took momentum into the extra sessions and did not allow a Rebel shot on goal in either overtime.
The Rebels outshot the Cyclones, 13-9, on the day while also edging ISU in corner kicks, 10-8.
