WACO, Texas ? Sydni Jones hit a two-run fourth-inning homer to lift Iowa State to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Baylor on Saturday at Getterman Stadium. The win gives the Cyclones the series split after the Lady Bears took Friday's game 5-0.
Jones' fifth homer of the season gave ISU (20-11, 1-1 Big 12) the lead back after Baylor (18-8, 1-2) took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the third. After Jacquelyn Beatty singled and stole second, Jones lifted Jenny Isham's delivery over the left field wall to make it 2-1 in favor of the Cyclones.
Brette Reagan had given the Lady Bears the lead in the third on an infield single that scored Nicole Wesley.
Iowa State pitcher Rachel Zabriskie (10-3) held Baylor without a hit over the final four innings to pick up her 10th win of the season, tying her for first all-time among freshman at ISU. For the game, Zabriskie gave up just five hits.
Isham (10-2) took the loss for Baylor, allowing two runs on five hits.
Jones finished the game 2-for-3 while Beatty and Kristy Olsen also collected two hits in the win. Olsen also had two stolen bases in the game to move into a tie for third in the Cyclone record books with 31 in her career.
The Cyclones are scheduled to return to action Tuesday when they play their home opener against Western Illinois. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
