Zabriskie, Bradberry Lead ISU Past OSU

STILLWATER, Okla. ? Amanda Bradberry's solo homer in the top of the sixth inning broke up a tie game and Rachel Zabriskie held Oklahoma State without a hit through five innings as Iowa State defeated the Cowgirls, 4-1, Sunday afternoon.

Zabriskie kept the Cowgirls from getting a hit until Jessica Meza's single with two outs in the sixth inning. Despite struggling to figure out Zabriskie, Oklahoma State (21-19, 4-4 Big 12) led 1-0 after the first inning because of a pair of miscues in the field for Iowa State (25-19, 2-6).

That score held until the top of the fourth when Sara Stinson doubled up the middle to score Oklahoma native Sydni Jones, who reached after being hit by a pitch with two outs.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Bradberry stepped to the plate and smacked Anna Whiddon's 3-1 pitch over the right field wall for a lead off homer. The homer was Bradberry's second of the season and ran her hitting streak to three games. The sophomore has reached base safely in 11 of the last 12 games.

Zabriskie worked out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning by getting Kati Phillips to fly out to right field.

The Cyclones added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as Kristy Olsen scored on a passed ball and Kelsey Kidwell came in to make it 4-1 on Courtney Wray's ground out to second base.

The Cowgirls loaded the bases again in the seventh but Zabriskie again got a fly out, this one by Heather Kim, to end the game and give ISU its second Big 12 win of the season.

Zabriskie (12-8), ISU's freshman record holder for wins, gave up just four hits while striking out five.

Olsen finished 2-for-4 with a run to lead the Cyclones.

Whiddon (8-5) allowed four runs on seven hits in the losing effort.

Iowa State will host Nebraska on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
