AMES, Iowa? The Iowa State soccer team ran into an offensive juggernaut Friday, falling to Missouri 3-0 in each team's conference opener.
In front of another record crowd at the ISU Soccer Complex of 929, Iowa State (4-5-0, 0-1-0) could not withstand Missouri's 31 shots with 15 of them being on frame.

“They (the Tigers) are a great team,” ISU head coach Wendy Dillinger said. “We knew exactly what to expect going in. They are great one versus one players. We knew what we had to do and we did it for the majority of the game, but we made a few errors and they beat us. They are great athletes.”
Iowa State had an opportunity to take the early lead 7:44 into the match when junior forward Amanda Nimtz was able to get behind the Missouri (6-2-0, 1-0-0) defense. Nimtz centered the ball to an onrushing Casey Bothwell whose shot was blocked by Missouri.
Missouri responded quickly as junior forward Kristin Andrighetto redirected a cross from junior forward Michelle Collins into the back of the net in the 10th minute. The Tigers took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Andrighetto, Collins duo struck again for Missouri 9:45 into the second half as the 2007 All-American, Andrighetto, notched her third goal of the season. The Tigers did not slow down after taking a two-goal lead and tallied the third in the 85th minute. Sophomore forward Alysha Bonnick scored on a rebound off her own shot that hit the post for her third goal of the campaign.
ISU goalkeeper Ann Gleason recorded a season-high 11 saves in the contest, one shy of tying her career mark.
The competition does not get any easier for the Cyclones as 25th-ranked Kansas (6-3-0, 0-1-0) comes to Ames Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at the ISU Soccer Complex. The Jayhawks are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at Nebraska Friday.
“We need to learn from our mistakes in this game” Dillinger said. “We need to watch the tape and prepare tomorrow.”
