Cyclones Look Strong at Inaugural Meet

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field team kicked off the season in good fashion, earning five first-place finishes and seven personal records at the ISU Holiday Preview. The inaugural indoor meet's momentum should be an asset for Cyclones for the rest of the indoor season.
"There was a lot of excitement tonight for a lot of our athletes just getting a chance to get on the track," head coach Corey Ihmels said. "It's great to see all the hard work they have put in this fall come to fruition."
Senior Eric Parker was the 60-meter hurdles champion, finishing with a time of 8.18 seconds. This is the second straight season Parker earned the Holiday Preview crown. Senior's Kiel Uhl and Dan Fadgen finished first and second, respectively, in the mile.
The Iowa State men's 4x300-meter relay team finished first, finishing with a time of 2:20.81. The relay team consisted of sophomore's Bryce Colston and Clint Martin, junior Amara Sama and senior Eric Parker.
Sophomore Clint Martin was the first collegiate runner across the finish line in the 300-meter dash (34.88), a personal record. Freshman Brian Sandvig and Greg Kufahl finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Matt Brinkley finished seventh (50.07). Junior Michael Alexander was the first collegiate runner in the 600-yard run (1:14.30). Sophomore Austin Parham finished fourth in the 800-meter run (1:57.34).
Junior Robbie Utterback finished fifth in the weight throw (55-3 ¾), while sophomore Mike Zika finished ninth (50-1 ¾). Competing unattached, Zach Richards finished eighth (50-8 ¾). Nick Pearson finished runner up in the long jump (22-6 ¼) while Derek Alderks tied for third in the high jump (6-2 ¼).
On the women's side, senior Jenna Caffrey finished first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.63). This is the second-straight year Caffrey was the champion in the 60-meter hurdles at the Holiday Preview. Junior Myranda Casterline finished third (9.01). Junior Ines Fischer finished runner-up in the mile (5:14.34).
Senior Monique Hawkins finished sixth in the 300-meter dash (41.42), while sophomore Callan Jacobson finished seventh (41.87). Sophomore Kianna Elahi finished third in the 400-meter dash (56.44), a personal record, while freshman Donnise Powell finished seventh (58.59).
Sophomore's Laishema Hampton and Danielle Frere finished first and second, respectively, in the weight throw. Both earned personal record marks. Frere and Hampton were also the first and second collegiate throwers, respectively, in the shot put.
Sophomore Dianne Lindsey finished runner-up in the long jump, clearing 17 feet 10 ½ inches. Lindsey competed unattached. Sophomore Mallory Henderson finished sixth (17-1 ¾), a personal record. Competing unattached, freshman Alison Tedrow tied for fourth-place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 2 ¼ inches in her first collegiate high jump competition. Sophomore Caitlin Weber and freshman Ashley Leitner finished tied for second and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault.
The Iowa State track and field team will play host the ISU Open, Friday Jan. 22 at the Lied Recreational Center. Results will be posted on cyclones.com.
