No. 22 Texas A&M Edges Iowa State, 4-2, In Extra Innings

AMES, Iowa - No. 22 Texas A&M's Meagan May hit a solo home run with two-outs in the seventh inning to tie it and the Aggies scored two runs in the eighth to defeat Iowa State, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in Big 12 play at the Southwest Athletic Complex. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 24-20 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play while Texas A&M improves to 34-11 overall and 5-4 in conference action.
The Cyclones scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on Courtney Wray and Erica Miller hits.
The Aggies got a fortunate bounce in the sixth inning as Alex Reynolds hit her third homer of the season to lead off the inning. Reynolds' homer was a line drive that bounced off the top of the wall and went over for A&M's first run of the game.
In the seventh, ISU pitcher Rachel Zabriskie retired the first two batters and had May down to her final strike before the freshman lifted an opposite field homer to tie it up. It was May's 18th home run of the season.
After the Cyclones went down quietly in the bottom of the seventh, Texas A&M took its first lead of the game with two runs in the eighth.
Macie Morrow and Kelsea Orsak drove in the Aggies' eighth inning runs. Morrow's came on a fielding error by ISU and Orsak singled to center for the last run of the game.
Melissa Dumezich (10-1) gave up just an infield single to Sydni Jones in the eighth to pick up the win in relief. Dumezich replaced Rebecca Arbino in the fifth and scattered three hits.
Zabriskie (19-12) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up four runs on nine hits. The junior struck out five.
Wray and Jones led the Cyclones with two hits each. Carleigh Berry extended her hitting streak to six games with a fifth inning single.
The Cyclones and Aggies will meet again at 11 a.m. Sunday to close the series.
