Womack found her way into the goal scorers' column in the 71st minute when the Quincy, Ill., native capitalized off a header from Nokels. Womack was left one-on-one with the Drake goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball low, into the back of the net.
"Hayley is a dynamic player," Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. "She's a great striker who knows how to create and adds an element with her speed and ability to penetrate defenses. She scored a nice goal, and it was well-deserving."
After Drake (0-1) tried vigorously to find the equalizer, Morgan added the key insurance goal to finish off the Bulldogs at the 84:13 mark. The goal was the sixth of the sophomore's career at Iowa State.
"Brittany's veteran experience showed as she put one away that was a huge goal because Drake was pushing numbers forward," Dillinger said.
Adding to Dillinger's enthusiasm was the solid effort the Cyclone defense exhibited to earn a shutout.
"Overall, we had solid defense tonight," Dillinger said. "We did a great job clearing set pieces, especially late in the game. Maddie Jobe came up huge a few times in the goal, coming out on through balls and made some nice saves."
The Cyclones held an 18-8 shots advantage, while the two sides finished the match level on corner kicks at five. After leading the shots column 5-1 at the break, Iowa State had 13 second half shots to Drake's seven.
Jobe made four saves en route to earning her first win and shutout of the campaign. With the shutout, the Cyclones extended their streak of holding Drake without a goal to 379:48 minutes, a mark that dates back to 2008.
"Winning our first match of the season was huge, especially for it to come against Drake," Dillinger said. "It was important to our seniors to start the season off right, and the win was well-deserved. I was also pleased with the play of our freshman as they lifted the game when they came on."
Iowa State plays its first home match of the season Sunday against Northern Illinois. The match will begin at noon at the ISU Soccer Complex.
