AMES, Iowa – A 52nd minute
Jennifer Dominguez goal proved to be the difference between Iowa State and South Dakota State as the Cyclones prevailed 1-0 Friday night in front of a loud and passionate crowd at the ISU Soccer Complex. The win improves Iowa State's record to 5-3-1 on the season.
Dominguez's goal came in the early minutes of the second half when a long ball by the Cyclones looked to be under SDSU's control. However, Dominguez showed great poise in getting the ball off the defender and put a cool finish past Jackrabbit keeper Kat Donovan's left hand.
South Dakota State had a chance late on in proceedings to take the match to overtime but Steph Peterson's 89th minute shot was deflected away by
Andrea Swanson to preserve the Cyclone win and shutout. The shutout was the second of the season for Swanson
Dominguez was on target for the Cyclones in the second and 12th minute for the Cyclones but both shots were smothered by Donovan. SDSU was on target once in the first half with Courtney Higgins on target but Iowa State keeper Swanson was on target.
Iowa State outshot the Jackrabbits in both total shots, going 17-to-11 in favor of the Cyclones and on shots on goal with Iowa State having a six-to-three edge.
The Cyclones return to action Sunday at the Toledo with kickoff slated for noon CDT.
