LUBBOCK, Texas - Iowa State (10-21, 0-5 Big 12) fell to Texas Tech (29-7, 2-2 Big 12) on Saturday, 6-2, and winless against the Red Raiders after two games this weekend.
Iowa State junior Erica Miller drove in the Cyclones' only runs of the day on her 23rd career home run, making the game her fifth this season with multiple RBIs.
Miller threatened to put the Cyclones on the board first with a deep fly ball to left in the top of the third but Texas Tech's Katelyn Williams got under the ball at the wall to make the catch for the third out of the inning, stranding Sara Davison at first.
In the circle for the second-straight day, Cyclone Tori Torrescano (6-14) did not allow a hit until the Red Raider third, when a one-out single by Ashley Hamada was followed by another single, off the bat of center fielder Mickey Kenney, and an error by Iowa State left fielder Jorden Smith that put runners on second and third with one out. Both runners came around to score on a double by Emily Bledsoe and designated player Adriana Perez drove in the final Tech run of the frame with a single to left field.
Back at the plate in the top of the sixth, Miller succeeded in her second attempt at a two-run bomb, putting the ball over the right field wall to cut the Red Raider lead to 3-2 with no outs in the inning. Lexi Slater scored on Miller's fifth home run of the season after coaxing a leadoff walk from Tech starter Brittany Talley. Talley was replaced after throwing five plus innings, allowing five hits, two runs, walking one and striking out three.
In the bottom of the sixth, two Red Raider singles and an error by Iowa State third baseman Dalyn Varela extended the Texas Tech lead back to three runs, and Perez's second hit of the game brought home the final run to make the score, 6-2. Texas Tech's best offensive threat, Perez is 6-for-7 against the Cyclones through two games with a home run and six RBIs.
Torrescano's day ended after 5.1 innings in the circle after giving up six runs, four earned, on seven Texas Tech hits, walking five and fanning one.
The teams close out their weekend series on Sunday with another noon CST game at Rocky Johnson Field.
