AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior outfielder Sarah Hawryluk has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week after hitting .600 with a walk, four runs scored, two RBI and a perfect 4-for-4 mark in stolen bases as the Cyclones (17-19, 3-3 Big 12) swept their three-game series against Oklahoma State last weekend.
The Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada native, who transferred to Iowa State from Western Nebraska Community College this season, is the first Cyclone to win a conference weekly award since 2007 and the third position player to ever be awarded a weekly nod.
Hawryluk had one hit Friday, three Saturday and two Sunday to help Iowa State to its first three-game winning streak in conference play since the 2009 season. In Sunday's games, Hawryluk stole two bases, totaling 16 for the season, ranking seventh in Iowa State history for steals in a season and sixth in the Big 12 this season. With seven hits combined against Baylor and Oklahoma State this season, Hawryluk is also sixth in the league in hits.
This season, Hawryluk is batting .322 with 21 runs scored and 39 hits, tied for the second-most hits on the team. She is also one of seven players with multiple triples on the year with two.
Hawryluk and the Cyclones are back in action Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. CDT, hosting Drake (21-14, 7-3 MVC) at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
