LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Iowa State softball team (12-11 overall) suffered a late-inning rally for the second consecutive game on Sunday, falling to Cal State Fullerton (17-8) by a score of 2-1. The game closes out Iowa State's four-game stint at the LBSU Louisville Slugger Invitational.

The Cyclones took an early lead in Sunday's game. Catcher Sammie Hildreth got things started with a single to lead off the inning. The senior advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt, courtesy of Nychole Antillon. Freshman Kaylee Bosworth stepped to the plate with one out and smacked an RBI single to left center, scoring Hildreth to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
Freshman pitcher Savannah Sanders got the start in the circle and once again provided ISU with a strong outing. Sanders, with the help of her defense, handcuffed the Cal State Fullerton batters throughout much of the game. The freshman gave up no runs and just four hits through six innings, as the Cyclones took a 1-0 advantage into the final frame.
The seventh inning proved to be Iowa State's undoing this time, as the Titans put together a two-out rally to bring in a pair of runs. After a Sydney Colenzo double and a walk for Shianne Brannan, Delynn Rippy provided the punch CSF had been looking for with a triple to right-center against Cyclone reliever Emma Hylen. The hit brought two runs to the plate. Hylen struck out the ensuing Titan batter to stop the bleeding, but CSF held on to win, 2-1.
