AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball team (19-29, 1-11 Big 12) fell to No. 9 Oklahoma (41-7, 12-1 Big 12) by a score of 12-1 on a rainy afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Sunday's game marked the series finale between the Cyclones and Sooners, in which OU took all three games.
Oklahoma 12, Iowa State 1
Following a quick first inning for both teams, the Sooners were able to generate some offense in the second frame. Two walks and a single by Fale Aviu loaded the bases with no outs for OU. A sacrifice fly from Macey Hatfield brought the first run of the day to the plate. ISU starter Savannah Sanders and her defense got out of the jam with no further damage and Oklahoma led 1-0 after two innings.
The Sooners then proceeded to add four runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-0 heading to the home half of the frame. Brittany Gomez and Cathlin Bingham both walked to open the inning, with Gomez moving over to third on a passed ball. Aly Cappaert then put Iowa State on the board, bringing Gomez in to score on a fielder's choice and the deficit was 8-1.
That would be the lone Cyclone run of the day, however, as Oklahoma got a pair of home runs in the top of the seventh and would go on to win, 12-1.
