MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Iowa State soccer team (3-12-3, 1-6-2 Big 12) closed the 2017 regular season by defeating Kansas State (6-11-1, 1-8-0 Big 12) on Friday at the K-State Soccer Complex.
Taylor Wagner notched her first goal of the season on an unassisted strike from beyond the 18-yard box. The shot slipped past the hands of K-State goal keeper Miranda Larkin to give Iowa State a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute.
K-State found an equalizer on a penalty kick by Brookelynn Entz in the 64th minute after a hand ball was called on Iowa State inside the box. The Cyclones answered right back with a PK of their own. This time it was Emily Steil burying the chance in the upper 90, as Iowa State re-gained the lead.

Turning Point of the Match
With the match tied 1-1 and the momentum swinging back in the Wildcats' favor on Senior Night in Manhattan, freshman Abby Harbin drew the game-winning penalty. Harbin put on a move to shake past a Wildcat defender left of the frame inside the box, and was then taken down from behind. The official awarded Iowa State the PK, which Steil then buried in the upper right corner of the goal to lift the Cyclones to victory.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes to…
Taylor Wagner. The junior played just 15 minutes but made one of the defining plays of the evening. With the two teams knotted in a scoreless battle with just five minutes to play in the first half. Wagner found an opening in the midfield and pressed the K-State defense, eventually launching a shot from just beyond the box. The K-State keeper was unable to handle Wagner's shot, finding the back of the net to give Iowa State a 1-0 lead.

Coach Speak
"All credit to K-State," head coach Tony Minatta said. "They really came out on their senior night and played inspired and played very hard. For us to find the will to come back and get the win is a testament to our girls and their will. A lot of teams would have packed it in a long time ago with the circumstances they went through, but it's good to get a win. Not many teams get to end their season with a win, so we're looking forward to moving on to spring ball."
