10.06.2017 | Soccer
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team (2-9-2, 0-3-1 Big 12) battled Oklahoma (2-8-4, 0-1-3 Big 12) for 110 minutes on Friday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex and came away with a 0-0 tie. The scoreless result was not for lack of an attack, as the Cyclones fired off 19 shots and had a 10-4 advantage over the Sooners in shots on goal.
Â
The Cyclones played one of their most complete matches to date, and junior forward Klasey Medelberg was a key reason why. The native of St. Louis, Mo. put the OU defense and goalkeeper under constant pressure, creating several chances single-handedly. Medelberg pulled the trigger on a career-high seven shots and was problem for the Sooners all night. Brooke Tasker fired off five shots for the Cyclones, while freshman Courtney Powell had four, including three shots on goal.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
The Cyclone back line. Iowa State put up a tremendous fight in both the midfield and the defensive back line, anchored by center backs Jordan Enga and Brianna Johnson. With Oklahoma building their attack in waves, ISU was solid to a player, keeping their form and holding the Sooners at bay.

Coach Speak
"We started off strong and played hard the whole way through," said head coach Tony Minatta. "It was great to see them compete the way they did for the entire match, especially in overtime. To close it out with the shutout was big for us and our confidence moving forward. We need to recover and get ourselves right. Oklahoma State is obviously a huge test, but we've shown that we can play with anybody, so we're looking forward to it."
