Cyclones Fall To No. 25 Oklahoma State In Overtime

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team (2-10-2, 0-3-1 Big 12) fell 2-1 in overtime to No. 25 Oklahoma State (10-2-2, 3-1 Big 12) on Sunday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Cyclones, playing their second overtime match in three days, pushed the Cowgirls to the brink behind a goal by Stella Maris Strohman in the 29th minute. However, OSU's Taylor Olson scored a "golden goal" in the 7th minute of overtime to end the match.

Turning Point of the Match
The Cyclones battled resiliently all day against OSU's lethal offensive attack, but Olson broke through for the game-winner. Cowgirl midfielder Anna Beffer found Olson in front of goal and the freshman buried it, giving ISU keeper Antonia Reyes little chance at a stop. Reyes, a sophomore, made a career-high nine saves on the day.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Stella Maris Strohman. The senior midfielder was a bright spot for the Cyclones all weekend, giving great effort off the bench on Friday vs. Oklahoma, and coming through with her first career goal on Sunday. Strohman collected a rebound in front of goal after Powell's header was blocked by the OSU keeper, and the senior from Ames, Iowa buried it in the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

"It's just tough," head coach Tony Minatta said. "In overtime, you make one mistake and that's it. We played 20 extra minutes of soccer on Friday night, but hats off to our players. They worked really hard and gave every effort. They're not backing down from anybody and they're giving everything they have. Their legs might be gone, but they were still fighting and pushing to get the win. I'm very proud of the team."

Iowa State will hit the road to take on No. 8 West Virginia on Friday. The Cyclones and Mountaineers are set to play in Morgantown, W.Va. at 6 p.m. CT.
