AMES, Iowa - Iowa State Softball team (2-3) is geared-up for the second weekend tournament of the season. The Cyclones are set to travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Tiger Classic, hosted by Tennessee State.
The event runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and features three games pitting the Cyclones against Tennessee State. Iowa State will also play a pair of games against Alabama A&M over the weekend.
ISU will look to build on a 2-3 record posted during the season's opening weekend at the Louisiana Classic, where the Cyclones notched victories over Southern Miss and Ball State, while falling to No. 11 Louisiana-Lafayette and DePaul (2x).

Cyclone Headlines
-The Iowa State softball team is headed to Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Tiger Classic, hosted by Tennessee State, Feb. 17-19. The Cyclones will play three games against TSU and a pair of contests against Alabama A&M.
-Iowa State went 2-3 in the opening weekend of the season at the 31st Annual Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La. The Cyclones scored wins over Southern Miss (6-4) and Ball State (7-4).
-Kelsey McFarland got her junior campaign started off the right way. The New Prague, Minn. native hit .533 (8-of-15) on the first weekend of the season with a team-high four RBIs, a double and a home run. McFarland went 4-for-4 at the plate, with a home run, in a win vs. Ball State.
-The Iowa State pitching staff currently ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 with 38 strikeouts on the season, led by 20 from Savannah Sanders.
-After pitching just 8.2 innings in all of 2016 due to injury, Brianna Weilbacher had a strong showing at the Louisiana Classic. The junior logged a win vs. Southern Miss in her only start, going four innings with eight strikeouts and just three hits surrendered.
-Iowa State had a new look to its offense from past years. Aggressive base running, a staple of assistant coach Randy Schneider's offense, helped the Cyclones swipe 10 bases on the opening weekend to rank No. 27 nationally. ISU returned just 12 stolen bases from last season.
-The Cyclone infield has had an infusion of youth, with three freshmen (Sami Williams - 2B, Logan Schaben - SS and Talyn Lewis - 1B/3B) starting every game in Louisiana. Another freshman, Jaiden Johnson, also got a start at the designated player position and saw extensive action as a pinch hitter.
-Cathlin Bingham returns following a strong junior campaign in which she hit .328 for 18 RBIs and 34 runs scored. The Ankeny, Iowa native also drew a single-season school record 31 walks in 2016.
-Jamie Trachsel is in her first seaon as Iowa State's head coach after serving six years as co-head coach at North Dakota State. While at NDSU, Trachsel coached the Bison to five NCAA Regionals and 10 conference championships (five regular season, five postseason).
