Texas Tech Topples Iowa State In Big 12 Opener

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (15-17, 0-1 Big 12) fell in its Big 12 opener to Texas Tech (14-14, 1-0 Big 12) by a score of 18-4 on Friday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The first inning spelled disaster for the Cyclones, with the Red Raiders putting 13 runs on the board in the top of the first frame. ISU would be forced to use three different pitchers to get out of the inning, and eight TTU runs had already come across home plate before sophomore Emma Hylen entered in the circle for Iowa State. The Red Raiders were also aided by three Cyclone errors in the inning, and four total in the game.

After TTU had increased its lead to 15-0, Iowa State got on the board with a run in the home half of the second. Kaylee Bosworth smacked an RBI single up the middle to score Talyn Lewis, who was hit by pitch to lead off the inning.

The Cyclones scratched out three more runs in the bottom of the third. Following a pair of walks, Lewis smacked a two-RBI double down the left field line, scoring Kelsey McFarland and Cathlin Bingham. Kirsten Caudle followed suit with an RBI double of her own to bring Lewis home.

Texas Tech scored a pair of runs in the top of the third and one more in the fifth to win by run rule, 18-4.

On Deck
The Cyclones are scheduled for two more games against the Red Raiders this weekend, starting with game two of the series on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The game will also be broadcast on Cyclones.tv Powered by Mediacom.
