DENVER – Iowa State (1-3-1) battled Denver (1-2-2) to a 0-0 draw on Friday night at DU's Ciber Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Dayja Schwichtenberg recorded a pair of saves in her second shutout of the season, behind a strong Cyclone defensive effort to hold the Pioneers scoreless.
Turning Point of the Game
Head coach Tony Minatta made some substitutions midway through the first half that helped spark the Cyclones after Denver had gotten off to a fast start. Iowa State was once again able to utilize its depth to find the right combination of players to flip the momentum in its favor. Freshmen midfielders Taylor Bee and Kara Privitera were among the substitutes that entered and brought tremendous energy to the Iowa State side.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Kasey Opfer. The Cyclone junior did just what Iowa State needed her to do on Friday night. Opfer was composed and physical in the midfield, helping ISU win and keep possession time and again. The native of Springfield, Mo., was constantly around the ball, winning multiple headers on set pieces to lead the Cyclones with three shots on the night.
Coach Speak
"We came off a very disappointing weekend and I felt like we got off to a slow start, maybe a bit of a hangover from that disappointment," Minatta said. "We were able to get some players on the field, especially Taylor Bee and Kara Privitera, and they really ignited the team through their energy and toughness and we started playing better. It's a gritty performance getting the shutout and not giving up anything, especially not playing well and still doing that. We need to build from this, look at the positives and move forward."

Iowa State will travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on the University of Colorado on Sunday. The match will kick-off at 1 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on PAC-12 Plus.
