AMES, Iowa – The 13th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones return from a holiday break to face Northwest Kansas Technical College, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
KEY STORYLINES
Iowa State went 3-1 in duals in the 2021 portion of the schedule and is set to open the 2022 portion against Northwest Kansas Technical College.
-The Mavericks enter the match ranked 19th in the NJCAA poll, while the Cyclones are ranked 13th in the NWCA poll.
-Iowa State enters the dual coming off a 23-13 victory against Purdue in Humboldt, Iowa on Dec. 19 in the last outing for the Cyclones. Iowa State won six of the final seven matches for the victory.
-Northwest Kansas Technical College is 0-4 on the season, having suffered losses to Northern Colorado, Doane, Utah Valley and North Idaho. Just two wrestlers on the probable lineup for Thursday have wrestled in a dual this season. Richie Lee (1-3) at 165 pounds and Jameel Coles (2-2) at 174 pounds have competed in duals.
-The victory over Purdue was the 200th career win for Iowa State Head Coach Kevin Dresser. In his fifth year at Iowa State, Dresser picked up his 40th victory as a Cyclone while adding to his 160 victories as head coach at Virginia Tech (2006-17).
-Caleb Fuessley (125), Isaac Judge (165) and Ethan Andersen (285) all finished third at the UNI Open.
-Four Cyclones picked up victories over Iowa on Dec. 5, including Yonger Bastida defeating third-ranked Jacob Warner 4-3 at 197 pounds.
