COLUMBIA, Missouri – The Iowa State gymnastics team (9-7, 1-1 Big 12) earned a score of 196.825, its second highest of the season, to defeat Lindenwood (194.825). The Cyclones fell to No. 11 Missouri (197.675) and No. 25 Illinois (197.275).
The Cyclones saw a strong performance from veteran Makayla Maxwell, who earned a perfect 10.000 on vault. This marks the first time in school history that there have been two perfect scores in the same season. Maxwell's score is the sixth 10.000 in school history and the fourth on vault. She is the eleventh gymnast in the country to earn a perfect score on vault this season.
Maddie Diab continued her dominance on floor, scoring a 9.950. This is her seventh score of 9.900 or above this season, and her third of 9.950 or better. As a team the Cyclones earned four scores of 9.900 or better, tied for the most in a single meet this season.
Vault
Iowa State tied their season high score on vault, posting a 49.300. Makayla Maxwell led the team and won the event with a perfect 10.000, a career high. Sophia Steinmeyer was close behind with a 9.925, tying her career high. Emilie Hong also tied her career high with a score of 9.875. Kelsey Boychuk and Josie Bergstrom finished out the scoring with scores of 9.800 and 9.700, respectively.
Beam
Iowa State scored a season-high 49.225 on beam, led by matching scores of 9.875 from Meixi Semple and Kelsey Boychuk. Boychuk's score was a career high. Sophia Steinmeyer and Josie Bergstrom followed closely behind with matching scores of 9.850. Bergstrom tied her career high, and Steinmeyer set a new season high. Hannah Loyim rounded out the scoring with a 9.775.
Floor
The Cyclones earned a total score of 49.200 on floor, led by a 9.950 from Maddie Diab. Kelsey Boychuk and Alondra Maldonado both posted matching scores of 9.825, with Boychuk's tying her season high. Hannah Loyim and Ariana Orrego rounded out the scores with matching 9.800s.
Bars
The Cyclones notched a total score of 49.100 on bars, led by a career high of 9.925 from Maya Ford. Laura Cooke was close behind with a 9.875. Makayla Maxwell earned a score of 9.825 to tie her season high on the event. Hannah Loyim and Ariana Orrego closed out the scoring with scores of 9.750 and 9.725, respectively.
