AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones (11-17, 0-3 Big 12) dropped a pair of games against the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners (30-1, 3-0 Big 12) on Saturday.
After seeing the second-largest crowd in Friday's game, the ISU softball attendance record was shattered on Saturday. 1,715 fans came to Cyclone Sports Complex to watch the Cyclones compete against the Sooners.
How it Happened
Game 1 – No. 1 Oklahoma 13, Iowa State 3 (5 Innings)
Milaysia Ochoa got the Cyclone offense started on the day with an RBI double that was inches from clearing the wall in right-center field. Two batters later, Ochoa would score on a Sooner error to make it 2-0 after one.
Lea Nelson smashed her first career home run in the fourth inning off Sooner starting pitcher Nicole May to give the Cyclones their final tally of three runs scored.
Six different Sooners hit a home run in game one of the day, including a three-run shot to left by Alyssa Brito that would give the Sooners the lead for good in the second inning.
Saya Swain (3-5) got the nod in the circle for the Cyclones. She allowed three runs (two earned) over two innings of work.
Nicole May (9-0) was the pitcher of record for the Sooners, allowing three runs (two earned runs) over four innings of work.
Game 2 – No. 1 Oklahoma 10, Iowa State 0
Alesia Ranches would pick up her second hit in as many days for Iowa State in game two, but strong pitching from the Sooners would stifle the rest of the Cyclone lineup.
Oklahoma ambushed the Cyclones for eight runs on five hits in its first half inning of the game. A run in the second and a run in the fifth would extend their lead to 10-0, which would be the final score of the game.
Freshman Tatum Johnson (1-3) was given the ball for game two but was only able to get through three batters. She would be charged with two earned runs and the loss in 0.1 innings pitched.
Jordy Bahl (8-1) tossed her sixth complete game of the season for the Sooners, allowing one hit and striking out five.
