AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones (22-28) concluded the home portion of their schedule with a 12-4 victory over the Drake Bulldogs (16-31) in six innings on Wednesday.
The Iowa State lineup slugged three home runs in the contest, including Angelita Fuentes' first home run of the season. Milaysia Ochoa sent her 12th home run of the season over the left-center field fence in the fourth inning and Mikayla Ramos would blast her sixth of the season off the left-field foul pole in the first.
The Cyclone lineup produced 11 hits on the day, with seven different players recording a hit. Of those 11 hits, six would go for extra bases and would be enough to power the Cyclones to their 22nd victory of the season. Â
How it Happened
The Bulldogs would strike first on Wednesday by using three first-inning hits to score three-first inning runs off Iowa State starting pitcher Tatum Johnson. Emma Dighton would plate two Bulldogs on her RBI single to right.Â
The Cyclones would immediately answer in the bottom of the inning by scoring two of their own to cut the lead to one. Milaysia Ochoa, who reached base three times in the game, would lead off the game by drawing a 10-pitch walk and Mikayla Ramos would blast her sixth home run of the season off the left-field foul pole.Â
Iowa State would hang another crooked number on the scoreboard in the second inning on three more hits. Tatum Johnson would deliver a two-run triple to put the Cyclones in front for good.Â
The fourth inning saw Iowa State plate three more runs to extend its lead. Milaysia Ochoa launched her 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning as part of her five-RBI day, which tied a career-high for RBI in a game for the junior.Â
