The Iowa State men's and women's cross country teams are primed to compete at the 2025 Big 12 Championships in Lawrence on Friday morning. Both Cyclone squads are ranked in the Top 10 nationally and looking forward to competing with several other ranked teams for Conference titles.

Then-No. 16 Iowa State made a splash on the national stage at Nuttycombe, finishing third behind No. 2 NC State and No. 7 Notre Dame. The Cyclone women were led by fifth-place individual finisher Mercyline Kirwa and top 30 finishers Maelle Porcher (13th), Betty Kipkore (14th) and Mercy Kibet (29th). The impressive team result sent ISU 10 spots up in the Week 4 USTFCCCA National poll to No. 6, the Cyclones' highest ranking in ten years (September 29, 2015).

The Course
The University of Kansas hosts its home cross country meets at historic Rim Rock Farm, northwest of Lawrence. Before being donated to KU in 2004, the property was owned by former head track and field and cross country coach Bob Timmons and has been the home of the Jayhawks since the 1974 season. Any runner or spectator will say that the course is quite challenging and unusual. In addition to having two covered bridges as part of the course, Rim Rock Farm also features specific hills, turns and other landmarks that are named after former Jayhawk runners.
What to Watch For
- The No. 6 Iowa State women are seeking their fifth top 3 in the last six seasons. Iowa State earned its 16th conference championship and eighth Big 12 Championship in 2020, followed by a runner-up finish in 2021. Â
- The Cyclones' most recent women's conference champion was Callie Logue, who won three consecutive individual titles from 2018-20. Nine ISU women boast 12 individual conference medalist honors, including six individual Big 12 Champions (Betsy Saina, Crystal Nelson, Perez Rotich, Logue).
- The No. 1 ISU men will look to fend off three other national top 10 opponents (No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Colorado, No. 8 BYU) for its first conference championship since 2019.
- Iowa State had four consecutive individual champions at the conference meet from 2018-2021 from Edwin Kurgat (2018-19) and Wesley Kiptoo (2020-21). The Cyclone men have had 16 runners earn 23 individual conference titles while four were individual Big 12 Champions.
