Cyclones Fall To No. 13 Texas Tech, 4-2

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 54 Iowa State (7-3, 1-1 Big 12) forced five third sets in singles play but fell to No. 13 Texas Tech, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at McLeod Tennis Center.

Texas Tech (9-1, 2-0 Big 12) opened up an early 1-0 lead when it took courts two and three in doubles action. The Cyclone pair of Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Cristina Ramos Sierra held a 5-1 lead against the nation's No. 5 doubles team, but the match went unfinished when the Lady Raiders clinched the point.

Julia Camblor evened the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Mariia Hlahola at No. 2 singles before the Lady Raiders rattled off wins on court three and four.

Kuearum, the nation's No. 81 player, rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Avelina Sayfetdinova. Kuearum has won four straight and nine of her last 10 matches.

Texas Tech finished off the match as Jermine Sherif completed the comeback at No. 6 singles against Valeska San Martin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Cyclones return to action Friday when they host No. 26 Arizona on Friday at 4 p.m.
