COLUMBIA, Missouri - The Iowa State men's golf team finishes in a tie for ninth place with Drake at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational. The Cyclones jumped five spots from where they ended the second round this morning, shooting the third-lowest final round in the field (+1). Picking up eight wins this tournament, ISU now has over 100 victories against opponents on the year, with a total record of 102-46-5 (0.667) heading into the Big 12 Championship.
Paul Beauvy shot a 70 in the final round, and scored his third eagle of the season to finish in a tie for 26th (+7). Beauvy led the field in Par 5 scoring (-3), and finished the tournament with seven birdies and an eagle. Zach May shot one over-par in the third round to help him jump to a tie for 40th place. May carded six birdies throughout the tournament.
Owen Sawyer jumped sixteen spots from the end of the second round to tie for 44th after shooting even-par in the final round. The sophomore tallied a team-high eight birdies these past two days, and now sits one birdie shy from eclipsing the 200 birdie mark on his career. Luke Gutschewski tied for 55th which included a 71 in the first round of the tournament. Gutschewski also carded an eagle today, his second of the season and sixteenth of his career, and totaled six birdies over his three rounds.
Dianchao Wu finished in a tie for 77th after carding a 70 in the third round. Wu finished with six birdies on the tournament. Freshman Luke Metcalf played as an individual, where he also tied for 77th place and carded five birdies.Â
Iowa State led the tournament in eagles scored (2) and carded the sixth-most birdies with 33.
Host Missouri won the Tiger Collegiate Invitational, winning by eight strokes and shooting even-par. The Tigers' Mattias Varjun held onto his lead from the first day to win the individual race, where he was the only player in the tournament to shoot under-par (-4).
The Big 12 Championship is next up for the Cyclones, as Iowa State looks to improve their resume for a chance to make an NCAA Regional as a team for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Tee times will start in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 22nd.
