AMES, Iowa – Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury has announced the addition of Noah Castle as an assistant coach overseeing the throws group.
"Noah joins Iowa State with a proven track record of identifying talent and developing student-athletes at a high level," Sudbury said. "His work ethic and professionalism stood out immediately, and his vision for the throws group is something we're truly excited to see take shape. As we continue to elevate this area of our program into a contender at both the Big 12 and national levels, Noah's attention to detail and commitment to excellence will be a tremendous asset to both our men's and women's teams."
Castle has had success on both the men's and women's side, leading two men and two women to five total All-America honors. He has seen nine women and seven men advance to NCAA West Prelims while eight MVC titles have been won under Castle's direction.
Castle joins Iowa State after four seasons at UNI. In 2025, Castle sent three men and one woman to NCAA West Prelims in the shot put and one in the javelin. He also helped lead his throwers to MVC titles in the men's javelin and women's shot put. In indoor season, Katie Fare earned MVC Most Outstanding Field Athlete and the conference shot put title.
The coach also helped guide two women to 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer. Makenna Wilson took 16th while Mari Shavers placed 22nd. Shavers also holds the weight throw school record, and went on to qualify for 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the hammer. His athletes account for four current UNI school records in the men's outdoor shot put, women's weight throw and men's and women's indoor shot put.
In 2022, Darius King took fifth at NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put, making for the best finish by any Panther since 2009. King has both the outdoor (20.33m, 2022) and indoor (20.30m, 2022) school records.
Prior to UNI, Castle spent two seasons at Eastern Illinois. His throwers put up eight top 10 program marks and set three school records. He had two advance to NCAA West Prelims in the hammer, including Makenna Wilson who also secured two conference titles in the shot put.
Castle competed collegiately at the University of Kentucky from 2015-19 where he earned five All-America honors through the discus and indoor and outdoor shot put. Castle had his highest finish at nationals taking ninth at 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships, one spot short of First Team All-America.
