FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four school records came down while multiple NCAA top 10 marks were set Saturday to close the Tyson Invite and Husky Classic. On the weekend, six school records were broken.
Rachel Joseph, who set a top 10 nationally ranked 400m time yesterday, took to the track in the 200m and downed the program record that held up for 25 years. Joseph's indoor best of 23.63 at the Tyson Invite broke Oluwaseun Adetiba's 2001 record of 23.85.
It is Joseph's fifth individual program record, while the senior has now set or rest an individual record 18 times. Joseph takes ownership of the indoor 200m record while holding the outdoor 200m, indoor 400m, outdoor 400m and indoor 600y records. Joseph is also a part of three relay squads holding school records.
The next three program records came in Seattle at the Husky Classic. Mercyline Kirwa, running in the event for the first time, clocked 15:09.13 in the 5,000m to break teammate Betty Kipkore's record of 15:15.30 set this season. Kirwa placed fourth in the invite section and currently ranks ninth in the nation.
Kipkore then ran in the 3,000m and beat two-time NCAA champion and 2025 Bowerman finalist Pamela Kosgei for the win in 8:44.09. The time downed Lisa Koll's 2010 record of 8:56.09 by 12 seconds. Kipkore ranks eighth nationally with the time.
Makayla Clark raced next in the invite 800m and clocked an indoor-best 2:02.21, breaking her own school record of 2:02.44 set last season. Clark took seventh in the field of NCAA champions and All-Americans, and currently ranks 15th among NCAA Division I runners.
Rodgers Kiplimo cut 14 seconds off his 5,000m personal best set earlier this season, moving up from No. 7 to No. 2 in Iowa State history with 13:18.35. Kiplimo placed fourth in the invite section at the Husky Classic, and moves up to rank inside the top 10 nationally. Meshack Kimutai took ninth in 13:28.69.
Back in Arkansas, freshman Matthew Shelly hit four flat in the mile, cutting three seconds off his previous PR ran this season with 4:00.80. Shelly placed fifth in the championship section of the event.
Next week is the final week of indoor regular season. ISU will be in competition at the Arkansas Qualifier, Alex Wilson Invite and Iowa Open Feb. 20-21. Big 12 Indoor Championships follow Feb. 27-28.
