AMES, Iowa - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) named nine Cyclones from track and field/cross country to the Academic All-District Team for their athletic and academic work, announced Tuesday.
The recipients are Rachel Joseph, Makayla Clark, Maelle Porcher, Candra King, Riley Beach, Emanuel Galdino, Quinton Orr, Brandon Fischer and Daniel Norris.
Joseph is now a three-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. The senior is fresh off becoming an eight-time All-American after earning First Team All-America in the 400m and a second team nod in the 4x400m.
Maelle Porcher is also now a three-time honoree. Porcher ended the season ranked 17th in the West region with a 5,000m personal best of 15:32.24. That time ranks Porcher fifth in Iowa State history.
Riley Beach is a recipient for a second-straight year. Beach made a return to NCAA West Prelims in the 1,500m, and finished 39th. The senior clocked a personal record in the event this season of 4:19.76, just off the all-time program top 10.
Makayla Clark is a first-time honoree. The middle distance star closed out her collegiate career breaking the 1990 800m program record with 2:00.29 to take 10th at NCAA Championships. Clark also earned Second Team All-America anchoring the 4x400m to 13th place.
Candra King picks up her first honor. King ranked 15th in the NCAA in the hammer this season, and finished 13th at NCAA West Prelims. The thrower earned silver medals in the hammer and weight throw this season.
Quinton Orr earns his fourth honor. Orr advanced to NCAA West Prelims in the steeple for the third time in his career. Orr opened his outdoor season with a personal record 8:39.11 to improve his time at ranking seventh in school history.
Emanuel Galdino is a first-time recipient. Galdino took on the 1,500m at NCAA Prelims, and finished 14th overall in the semifinals with a season-best 3:38.73. Galdino medaled in both the 800m and 1,500m at outdoor conference, taking second in the 1,500m and seventh in the 800m.
Brandon Fischer also earns his first honor. Fischer advanced to NCAA West Prelims in the discus, and at the event took 39th in the region. Fischer hit a personal best of 190-4 to now rank seventh in program history.
Fellow first-time honoree and discus thrower Daniel Norris took 20th at NCAA West Prelims. The senior threw an ISU PR of 188-0 at Big 12 Championships to medal placing fifth.
Joseph and Clark advance to the national ballot.
Student-athletes earned the honor for holding a 3.50 or greater cumulative GPA while being at least an academic sophomore. Athletically, those eligible ranked top 50 regionally in track and field or had a top 50 individual performance at the regional meet.
