Iowa State Places Second at the Bell Bank Collegiate

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The Iowa State men's golf team finishes in second place at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate at -17 (285-281-281=847). The Cyclones led the field in Par 5 scoring (-26) and finished second in birdies (58) and eagles (3), led by three Cyclones who finished in the top-10.
Marquette, who gave up a 16 stroke lead to the Cyclones in last years tournament, holds on to the lead this year to win the Bell Bank Collegiate at -21. Maryland's #137 Emil Riegger goes wire-to-wire to earn medalist honors, shooting -10.
Last year's tournament winner Zach May finishes in 3rd place (-7) in this year's event, shooting four-under in today's third round. This marked May's fourth top-3 finish of his career and the lowest 54-hole score on the season (209). May tied the sixth-lowest score on Par 4's (-3) and carded a team-high 14 birdies. Paul Beauvy tied for 10th at four-under par, his fourth top-10 finish of the season and 14th of his career. Beauvy shot -6 on Par 5's, tied for eighth-lowest in the tournament and tallied 13 birdies. Owen Sawyer also tied for 10th, jumping 17 spots after shooting a 68 in the final round. Sawyer has finished in the top-10 four times this season and seven times in his career. The junior finished second in the field in Par 5 scoring (-8) and totaled 12 birdies.
Jackson McCommon tied for 26th (E) and carded another eagle on the same hole as yesterday, bringing him to eight eagles in his career and four this season. McCommon finished with ten birdies and a tournament-high two eagles. Julian Geerebaert finished tied for 55th at seven-over par. Geerebaert led the entire field in Par 5 scoring at nine-under par and also tallied eight birdies. Playing as an individual, Drew Hensen moved up five spots to tie for 83rd. Hensen carded five birdies and an eagle in his three rounds.Â
The Cyclones are back at it next Tuesday, March 31st for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Ariz.
