Camblor Clinches It As ISU Downs West Virginia, 4-2

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Julia Camblor rallied to win as the Cyclones defeated West Virginia (7-11, 1-10 Big 12), 4-2, Sunday afternoon at the Iowa State Tennis Facility in their final home match of the season.

Iowa State (4-14, 2-9 Big 12) won its second-straight match after defeating Cincinnati, 4-2, on Friday evening.

Camblor dropped the opening set against West Virginia's Lola Byers but stayed steady and won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the match.

The Cyclones took a thrilling doubles point to open the contest, clinching on a 7-6 (5) win on court one by Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Ashlee Narker over Julie Bousseau and Audrey Moutama.

Julia Camblor and Stanislava Shulzhenko got things started for ISU with a convincing 6-2 win on court two, but West Virginia evened things up with a 7-6 (3) win on court three by Byers and Sosanna Malaak over the Cyclone freshman pairing of Alicia Dale and Gabriella Kellner.

Following the doubles win, Suzanie Pretorius returned to the lineup and beat Malaak, 6-4, 6-1, to put ISU up 2-0.

West Virginia drew to within 2-1 with a win on court three, but Alberto Vilar snapped an eight-match skid at No. 1 singles with an impressive 6-3, 6-3 victory over Audrey Moutama.

After West Virginia made it 3-2 with a win on court two, Camblor and Dale were left on the courts battling in third sets.

It was Camblor who closed the door on the Mountaineers first as ISU earned the win.

The Cyclones will face Kansas State next Friday at 6 p.m.
