Trailing 3-0, Cyclone senior Cinnamon Gooding led off the top of the seventh with a double. Pinch runner Amy Crittendon, who replaced Gooding, advanced to third on senior Michelle Junod's single. Sophomore Lauren Cathey tagged a Kelly Zeilstra pitch to deep center field, but Knopf caught the fly ball at the warning track. Crittendon scored the Cyclones first run of the game on Cathey's sacrifice fly. After Amberly Lessinger struck out, pinch hitter Laura Browning walked, advancing Junod to second base with two outs. With two runners on base, senior Lisa Frank grounded out to end the game.
Three-straight first-inning singles off Cyclone starting pitcher Kristin Ferguson helped Iowa take a 3-0 lead. Amber Morrow and Jessica Bashor had back-to-back singles and both scored on Kristin Johnson's single. After Liz Dennis grounded out, Megan Atkins tripled to drive in Johnson for the Hawkeyes' third run of the inning.
Senior hurler Mandy Loushin replaced Ferguson in the second inning and scattered four hits over five innings, striking out three of the 20 Hawkeye batters she faced.
Iowa State, which fell to 15-15 with the loss, travels to Creighton Wednesday for a 4 p.m. single game. The Cyclones return home Thursday to play host to Western Illinois.
