LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior Cinnamon Gooding was 2-of-3 at the plate as the Iowa State softball team fell to Nebraska, 6-0, in Big 12 play. The Cyclones connected for seven hits while the Huskers had 10.
Nebraska got on the board in the second inning when Jamie Fuente doubled to right field and advanced to third on a Jenifer Williams single. An RBI double by Leigh Suhr scored Fuente and Williams to make it 2-0.
The Huskers added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Fuente singled and scored on a single by pinch hitter Heather Martin making it 3-0. A three-run homer by Fuente gave Nebraska a 6-0 lead after the fifth inning.
Lisa Frank was 2-of-4 at the plate, while Robyn Riedler, Michelle Junod and Amberly Lessenger each contributed a hit. Jen Bice (8-5) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing three runs on two hits while fanning one. Kristin Ferguson allowed three runs on three hits and Mandy Loushin gave up no runs on one hit in 1 2/3 innings.
The Cyclones return to action on Thursday when they travel to Cedar Falls to take on in-state rival Northern Iowa. Iowa State is 15-21 overall and 3-10 in the Big 12.
