NORMAN, Okla. - The Iowa State softball team fell to No. 7 Oklahoma, 9-0 and 8-2 in Big 12 play. The Cyclones are 14-13 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12.
Oklahoma took an early 3-0 lead after the second. Ashli Barrett singled to the shortstop. Andrea Davis reached on catchers interference advancing Barrett to second. Barrett advanced to third and Davis advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Mandy Fulton RBI single scored Barrett to make it, 1-0. Erin Evans RBI doubled scored Davis and Fulton making it, 3-0. The Sooners expanded the lead in the fifth when they scored two runs on two hits. LaKisha Washington singled. A home run by Kelli Braitsch made it, 5-0. Oklahoma added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Barrett singled to start off the inning and scored on a two run homer by Jaime White to make it, 7-0. Pinch hitter Macey Wilson walked and advanced to second on a single by Washington. Christy Ring's RBI single brought in Wilson and Washington making it, 9-0.
Robyn Riedler was 1-of-2 at the plate and Cinnamon Gooding went 1-of-2. Cyclone hurler, Erica Martinez (3-3) took the loss for the Cyclones allowing nine runs on 10 hits, while fanning 6.
The Sooners led off the night cap scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. Barrett singled and advanced to second on a single by Davis. White walked to load the bases. Ferguson walked Washington to bring in Barrett making it, 1-0. Ring singled to left field to bring in Davis and White to make it, 3-0. Iowa State scored one run in the top of the fourth. Martinez was hit by the pitch. Lauren Cathey reached on an error to advance Martinez to third. Amy Crittendon came in to pinch run for Cathey and Tiffany Cornine pinch ran for Martinez. Crittendon was caught stealing at second as Cornine stole home making it, 3-1. Oklahoma added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Braitsch singled and advanced to second on a single by Lisa Carey. Davis homered to make it, 6-1 after the fifth. The Cyclones tried to battle back in the top of the sixth scoring one run on two hits. Martinez reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a double by Cathey to make it, 6-2. The Sooners added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Braitsch singled and scored on a homer by Carey to make it a 8-2 ballgame.
Cathey was 1-of-3 with one RBI. Michelle Junod, Riedler, and Gooding each contributed a hit. Ferguson (2-4) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing five runs on four hits in four innings. Bice allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out one in two innings.
Iowa State continues play Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 when they take on Drake.
