DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team shut out Drake, 3-0 today in Des Moines. Cyclone shortstop Jessica Polo was 1-of-2 at the plate with one RBI and Cinnamon Gooding went 2-of-2.
Iowa State got on the board first, scoring two runs in the third inning. Lisa Frank singled and advanced to second on a single by Adi Blackmon. A sacrifice hit by Robyn Riedler advanced Frank to third and Blackmon to second. A RBI sacrifice hit by Michelle Junod scored Frank and advanced Blackmon to third. Polo doubled to right field to score Blackmon to make it, 2-0.
The Cyclones added another run in the top of the fifth. Jill Hlavacek reached on an error by Bulldog second baseman Jessica Jobes. Hlavacek advanced to second on a single by Lisa Frank, Hlavacek advanced to third on the throw. A RBI sacrifice fly by Robyn Riedler scored Hlavacek making it, 3-0.
Frank was 2-of-4 at the plate. Blackmon and Amber Lessinger each contributed a hit. Freshman Erica Martinez (2-2) recorded the win for the Cyclones, allowing no runs on two hits, while fanning eight.
Iowa State is 15-13 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12. The Cyclones play host to Texas A&M Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 at the Southwest Athletic Complex. Both games are slated to start at 1 p.m.
