AMES, Iowa - Senior shortstop Jessica Polo was 2-of-3 at the plate, with two doubles but the Iowa State softball team fell to Texas A&M, 9-1 in Big 12 play earlier today.
The Cyclones took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Lisa Frank singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by Adi Blackmon. Frank stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michelle Junod.
The Aggies took the lead scoring two runs in the top of the fifth. Kelly Ferguson walked and scored on a Tiffany Esters home run to make it, 2-1.
Texas A&M scored two more runs in the sixth. Crystal Martin led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on Selena Collins' single. Lauren Ripple came into pinch run for Collins. Lisa Klam singled advancing Ripple to second and Martin to third. Cyclone hurler Jen Bice walked Ferguson to make it, 3-1. A Davis sacrifice fly scored Ripple, giving A&M a 4-1 lead.
The Aggies expanded the lead scoring five runs in the top of the seventh. Angie Shetler walked and advanced to third on a double by Angie Long. A Martin RBI single scored Shelter to make it, 5-1. Collins singled to bring in Long. Klam's three-run homer put the Aggies up 9-1.
Polo was 2-of-3 at the plate, while Frank and Gooding each contributed a hit. Junior Kristin Ferguson (2-5) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing four runs on six hits.
Iowa State is 15-15 overall and 3-7 in the Big 12. The Cyclones resume play when they take on intrastate rival, Iowa on Tuesday, April 11 at 4 p.m.
