COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Iowa State softball team closed out the Missouri Round Robin Sunday beating Tennessee-Martin, 8-4 in 10 innings and falling to Missouri, 6-5. ISU was 5-1 in the three-day tournament.
Rainey Eanes led the Cyclone hitting attack with two hits and four RBI against Tennessee-Martin. Tennessee-Martin got on the board with one run in the bottom of the first. Iowa State scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. The Skyhawks answered back scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 2-2. The Cyclones took the lead again scoring one run in the top of the eighth inning. Tennessee-Martin answered back tieing the game in the bottom of the eighth. The Cyclones regained the lead in the top of the ninth scoring one run. The Skyhawks rallied scoring one run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, 4-4. Iowa State scored four runs in the top of the 10th to take an 8-4 lead.
Cyclone hurler Jen Bice (3-4) recorded the win, allowing four runs on six hits while fanning 16. Julia Lindsay was 3-of-3 at the plate with one RBI. Lauren Cathey and Amberly Lessenger each had two hits and one RBI respectively. Molly McNertney, Adi Blackmon and Erica Martinez each contributed a hit.
Missouri pounded out 18 hits enroute to a 6-5 victory. The Cyclones had a 5-2 lead after the third inning. The Tigers rallied, scoring four runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 6-5 ballgame. ISU scored two runs in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third.
Laura Browning and Martinez had one hit and two RBI respectively. Cathey had one hit and one RBI, while Blackmon, Eanes and Lindsay each contributed a hit. Kristin Ferguson (3-1) took the loss for Iowa State, allowing six runs on 14 hits.
The Cyclones, 8-8 overall, return to action on Wednesday when they take on Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla.
