LUBBOCK, Texas - The Iowa State softball team fell to Texas Tech, 2-0, Sunday at Rocky Johnson Field. The loss moves the Cyclones to 14-25 overall and to 2-11 in the Big 12 Conference.
The Red Raiders got on the board first scoring one run in the bottom of the second. Carmen Grindell doubled to center field to lead off the inning. An RBI single by Britney Stolle put Tech up 1-0.
Texas Tech scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tracy Cartier and Sandy Butler's back-to-back singles put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt by Rebecca Eimen advanced Cartier to third and Butler to second. Cartier was thrown out at home as Shauna Briggs reached on a fielder's choice. A double by Grindell scored Butler to make it 2-0.
Jen Bice (9-14) recorded the loss for the Cyclones, allowing two runs on eight hits and fanning four. Erica Martienz was 1-of-2 at the plate while Julia Lindsay was 1-of-3.
Iowa State returns to action on May 6 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., to take on Nebraska for a single game starting at 3 p.m.
