BOULDER, Colo. - The Iowa State soccer team fell 1-0 to Colorado in Big 12 action Friday. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Cyclones, who fall to 5-6-1 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12. Colorado improved its record to 5-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference action.
The lone goal of the game came in the 31st minute when Colorado freshman Fran Munnelly scored off assists from Lindsey Galas and Nicholle Taylor. The score was Munnelly's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Iowa State managed just one shot in the first half to Colorado's four. The Buffaloes outshot the Cyclones 16-7 for the game. Kristina Baumann and Erin Weldon led ISU with two shots each, marking the eighth game Baumann has led ISU in shots in 2002. The freshman forward leads the team with 38 shots this season.
Colorado goalkeeper Sara Erskine recorded her second shutout of the season, improving her record to 2-2-1. For the third straight game, Karen Hasselman allowed one goal for the Cyclones; the sophomore suffered her first defeat of the season.
The Buffaloes improved to 4-0 all-time in Boulder against the Cyclones. Every game between ISU and Colorado since 1997 has been decided by one goal.
Iowa State returns home for a Big 12 battle with 23rd-ranked Nebraska, Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
