AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts blanked the Iowa State soccer team 1-0 at the UMass Classic Friday. With the victory, the Minutewomen improve to 1-5 on the season. Iowa State has dropped three consecutive games, all shutouts, and is now 3-3 on the season. The Cyclones have lost two consecutive 1-0 games.
Massachusetts scored the game's only goal at the 12 minute mark. Lindsey Bellini scored her first goal of the season, with Michelle Luttati and Erin Lilly assisting on the play.
Iowa State outshot Massachusetts 25-12, which included a 17-8 margin in the second half. Amy Flores came off the bench and recorded seven shots for ISU, and Kristina Baumann tallied six shots. Nikki Gamble fired four attempts and Deb Benakis added three.
Goalkeeper Kelly Nigh came up big for the Minutewomen, recording ten saves on the day. ISU's Beth Chapman posted five saves and has now allowed one goal or less in five of the Cyclones six games in 2002.
The Cyclone soccer team will face Fairfield Sunday at 10 a.m. at the UMass Classic.
