SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Iowa State softball team dropped both ends of a double header against Southwest Texas Wednesday in San Marcos, Texas. Southwest Texas claimed game one, 8-0, and secured the sweep with an 8-0 win in the second game. Sophomore Lindsey Herrin took the loss in game one and freshman Kristen Karanzias had the loss in game two, as ISU's record fell to 10-15 overall this season.
The Bobcats starting pitcher, Nicole Neuerburg, recorded both wins for the Bobcats.
In game one, the Cyclones had four hits, compared to Southwest Texas' 11. ISU also had two errors to the Bobcats zero. Junior Julia Lindsey led the way for ISU with two hits in three at-bats. Senior Katie Ruby and freshman Cary Akins also had a hit for the Cyclones.
In game two, Iowa State had three hits to the Bobcats' seven. Senior Adi Blackmon, Ruby and Akins had hits in the Cyclone effort. Blackmon added a stolen base for her ninth stolen base of the season.
Iowa State opens the Big 12 season with two games at Texas on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23. The Cyclones and Longhorns clash on Saturday at 1 p.m., and on Sunday at Noon.
