AUSTIN, Texas -- The Iowa State softball team fell 2-0 to No. 7 Texas Sunday afternoon at McCombs Field. The Cyclones fell to 10-17 on the season and 0-2 in the Big 12 Conference. The win gives Texas a weekend sweep after the Longhorns defeated ISU, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Erica Martinez led the Cyclones on the pitching mound with two strikeouts. She recorded the loss, her record falling to 8-6. Texas' Amy Bradford recorded the win and had six strikeouts on the afternoon.
Iowa State outhit the Longhorns, 4-3. But ISU also had two costly errors to Texas' zero. The Longhorns got on the board in the fourth inning when they scored on a throwing error by ISU's catcher. Texas also scored a lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Senior Adi Blackmon led the way for the Cyclones with two at-bats and two hits. Senior Katie Ruby and junior Kelly Wardein also added a hit.
Iowa State will travel to Macomb, Ill., to take on Western Illinois on Tuesday, March 25. Game time is at 3 p.m. The Cyclones also played Western Illinois back on March 15, where they dropped a close 8-7 game in extra innings.
