LAWRENCE, Kan. ? Senior Julia Lindsey hit her sixth double of the season and the Cyclones also received hits from Cary Akins and Jessica Quade, but it wasn't enough as Kansas defeated Iowa State, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at KU's Arrocha Ballpark. With the loss, Iowa State ends the regular season with a 13-30 overall record and a 3-13 mark in Big 12 play. Kansas ends the season with a 31-26-1 mark. Freshman Alyssa Ransom and sophomore Kristen Karanzias split time on the mound for the Cyclones and struck out three KU batters. Karanzias took the loss, her record falling to 2-5.
Akins scored ISU's lone run, her ninth of the season. Juniors Heather McLatchie and Kim Rodgers each had stolen bases and junior Misty Kimura and Quade had walks for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones jumped on the scoreboard right away in the first inning when Akins scored off a Quade single to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Kansas tied up the score in the bottom of the third inning when Jayhawk Ashley Goodrich crossed home plate after tagging up when Heather Stanley had a sacrifice fly out to right field. In the top of the fourth, ISU's Rodgers reached base on an error by KU's third baseman, but the rest of the side stalled and the score continued to be tied, 1-1. Neither team would find the scoreboard again until KU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jayhawk Sylvia Pfeffer hit a two-run home run, scoring Kathy McVey in the process. The Cyclones tried to put together a rally in the top of the seventh, but it fell short, allowing Kansas to escape with a 3-1 win.
Iowa State had three hits and two errors compared to Kansas' nine hits and one error.
