Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina's Ashley Williams' goal at 60:01 of the match proved to be the only offense the Gamecocks would need en route to a 1-0 victory over Iowa State on Sunday afternoon. The Cyclones drop to 1-3 on the year, while USC improves to 4-1.
ISU out shot the host Gamecocks in the first half, 4-3, but was unable to keep up the offensive pressure in the second half with South Carolina finishing with an 11-6 shots-on-goal advantage.
Freshman Stephanie Kaphingst led the Cyclone offense, registering a team-best two shots on goal, while classmates Brittanie Waddell and Renee de St. Aubin and junior Kristina Baumann each tallied a shot in the contest.
Iowa State concludes its four-match road swing next week on the West Coast when it travels to California for meetings with Pepperdine and U.C. Santa Barbara. The Cyclones battle the Waves on Friday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m., followed by a Sunday contest with the Gauchos at 3 p.m. All times are CST.
