AMES, Iowa ? Texas Tech scored two runs in the first and three in the sixth to defeat Iowa State, 5-0, and earn a series split with the Cyclones Sunday afternoon at the Southwest Athletics Complex.
The Cyclones (22-31, 1-7 Big 12) had seven hits in the game but eight baserunners left on base proved to be the difference.
Fallon Johnson and Katie Reichling led the Cyclones with two hits each. Amanda Bradberry, Jessica Quade and Courtney Wray each added a hit in the loss.
Texas Tech (18-21, 1-7 Big 12) got on the board in the first and pitcher Sarah Losleben kept the Cyclones off the board to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Ashley Parker singled on a bunt and stole second to lead off the game for the Red Raiders. On the stolen base, catcher Ashley Killeen's throw sailed wide and allowed Parker to move to third with no outs. She beat the throw home to score on a fielder's choice by Devin Zaragoza, making it 1-0.
Brandy Moulin then singled through the right side to plate
The Cyclones loaded the bases in the bottom of the first but Losleben (5-8) got Bradberry to fly out to right field to stop the threat.
Both teams went scoreless until the sixth inning when the Red Raiders put three runs on the board in the sixth.
Moulin joined Jennifer Bowers and Brooke Neuman with run scoring hits in the sixth as Texas Tech increased its lead to 5-0.
The Cyclones got singles from Reichling and Bradberry in their half of the sixth but Losleben again was able to get out of the jam, this time getting ground outs from Kristen Karanzias and Quade to end the inning.
Moulin finished 2-for-3 to lead the Red Raiders to their first league win of the season.
Alyssa Ransom (10-12) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.
