CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Iowa State got a run-scoring single from Courtney Wray in the seventh inning and held on to beat Lipscomb, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon at the Chattanooga Challenge.
The Cyclones (9-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Jacquelyn Beatty's home run before tacking on four more in the sixth.
Wray led the sixth inning rally as well, doubling to center field to open the inning. After Alex Johnson and Beatty drew walks, Amanda Bradberry ripped a double to center to score Wray and Johnson. Carrie Monroe then tagged Iowa State's third double of the inning to round out the scoring and put ISU up 5-0.
The Bisons (4-6) bounced back to score four in their half of the inning. Heather Collins blasted a Rachel Zabriskie pitch to left field for a three-run homer to make it 5-4.
Wray's run-scoring single in the seventh proved to be all the insurance Iowa State would need. The Bisons tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Abby Keese single but Zabriskie got Christen Campbell to line out to center field to pick up her first career save.
Wray and Kelsey Kidwell had two hits each to lead Iowa State. Bradberry and Monroe each drove in a pair of runs and Beatty moved into a tie for the team lead with her second homer. ISU stole four bases in the game.
Charissa Carlin allowed three runs on five hits but picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Alaina Jacobson (0-1) took the loss for Lipscomb, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing a run on three hits.
Iowa State will face Akron at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
