CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Iowa State pounded out nine hits and took advantage of five errors en route to a 6-0 win over Bowling Green on Sunday at the Chattanooga Challenge. With the win, Iowa State runs its win streak to eight games and improves to 11-1, the best 12-game start in school history. The previous mark was 10-2 in 1975.
The Cyclones and Falcons were scoreless until the fourth inning when an Amanda Bradberry single led to a run for ISU as Ariel Coburn and Courtney Wray came in to score on an error by catcher Katelynn Boso.
Iowa State tacked on three more in the fifth, highlighted by a run-scoring double from Alex Johnson that plated Wray, who also drove in a run with a single to left center earlier in the inning. The Cyclones had five hits in the fifth.
Kesley Kidwell singled up the middle in the sixth to score Carleigh Berry and give ISU the 6-0 win.
Wray finished the game 3-for-4 and Kidwell added two hits as well for the Cyclones.
Rachel Zabriskie (5-1) picked up the win, allowing just two hits while striking out six in five innings. Amie Ford was solid in relief, striking out three in two innings.
Hayley Wiemer (0-2) got the loss for Bowling Green, giving up five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings.
Iowa State amps up the competition next weekend as it heads to Arizona to face the defending national champion Wildcats at the Hillenbrand Invitational. The Cyclones will also face nationally ranked Virginia Tech as well as South Florida, New Mexico State and Illinois-Chicago.
