SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? Iowa State fell to New Mexico State , 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the San Diego Classic. It marks the Cyclones' third-straight loss after going 22 games to start the season without losing consecutive contests.
The Aggies (14-19) jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning as Kristi Hannan tripled off Iowa State starter Amie Ford to score Kristi Randall and Brittany Clifton. Hannan also came in to score on an error by Courtney Wray on the play.
New Mexico State made it 4-0 in the fifth as Ashley Maroda homered to left field.
The Cyclones (18-17) put two on the board in the sixth on a single from Ariel Coburn, who later came around to score as well when Jacquelyn Beatty reached on an error.
Ford (3-1) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, on six hits. Ford also had five strikeouts to move into ninth place all-time at Iowa State.
Kim Watson (11-12) got the win for the Aggies, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out seven.
