Cyclones Cruise To 15-7 Win Over Jackrabbits

WICHITA, Kan. ? Iowa State pounded out a season-high 17 hits en route to a 15-7 win over South Dakota State Saturday at the Shocker Invitational.
The Cyclones (16-3) scored six runs in the first and fourth innings before tacking on three in the fifth to run-rule the Jackrabbits (4-11).
Sydni Jones continued her hot play, going 3-for-4 and driving in a career-high four runs. Jones had a homer and double and also singled home the final run of the game. Alex Johnson was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Ariel Coburn also belted a homer for ISU and finished 2-for-4 while driving in three runs. Courtney Wray and Jacquelyn Beatty scored three runs each for the Cyclones, who also notched four stolen bases.
Amie Ford (3-0) picked up the win for the Cyclones, allowing a run in two innings of relief work. Ford replaced Rachel Zabriskie, who struggled for ISU, in the fourth inning. Zabriskie allowed six runs in three innings in the circle.
After South Dakota State got out to a 1-0 lead in its half of the first, ISU bounced back to score six runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs.
Kelsey Kidwell opened the inning by beating out an infield hit and Courtney Wray singled to centerfield. Johnson then doubled down the right field line to score Kidwell and advance Wray to third. Coburn followed with her third home run of the season, a three-run shot off Jenna Marston to make it 4-0. Marston continued to struggle, plunking Jacquelyn Beatty with a pitch and giving up another long ball, this one to Jones. It was Jones third homer of the season and made it 6-1 at the end of the first.
South Dakota State was able to put four on the board in the top of the fourth, tying the game and chasing Zabriskie. Ashley Durazo and Jessica Vineyard each drove in a pair of runs in the inning.
The Cyclones responded in their half of the inning, putting another six-spot on the board to take a 12-6 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Michelle Dettmer. Johnson, Beatty, Jones and Carrie Monroe each had run scoring hits for ISU in the inning.
SDSU was able to get a run back as Greta Stroh homered off Amie Ford to make it 12-7 but the Cyclones went on to put three on the board, ending the game at 15-7 in the fifth inning.
